LGBTQ+ Scholarship - funded by Trustee Craig Milgrim, M.S.

In 2018 Craig was elected as the SDCCD Board’s first openly gay trustee after 26 years as a Biology faculty at Grossmont College. Craig Milgrim has pledged funds to honor and recognize LGBTQ+ students who strive to better themselves by returning to school to further their education. This scholarship is his way of supporting LGBTQ+ students overcome the personal challenges inherent in today’s culture. He hopes the awardees will use the $500 to support their journey and find ways to enjoy life.
Eligibility:
While this scholarship is designated for queer cis and trans gay men, we affirm and celebrate the full diversity of LGBTQ+ identities.
Must have completed 3 units at Miramar College – Must be enrolled in Fall and Spring semester of the current academic year for 3 or more units – GPA 2.0. Full and Part-time students are encouraged to apply.
- If there is no funding or no qualified applicants that reflect this format, the scholarship will not be awarded for that year.

Note: While the scholarship application and committee review process require full student information (complete application, CSID/name/personal information, etc.), students receiving the scholarship awards may choose to remain anonymous for the purposes of the scholarship awards ceremony and program. Contact information for Trustee Milgrim will be provided. Scholarship are encouraged to contact Craig if they wish to discuss their academic and personal journeys.
Criteria
• Application open to any queer cis or trans gay men.
• Applicant must have completed at least 3 academic units at their current college.
• Applicant must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.
• Applicant must be currently enrolled in at least 3 academic units.
• Applicant must respond to application question.

All Scholarship recipients will be required to provide a “Thank You” Letter to the donor expressing your sincere appreciation of the award(s).

Note: If you are selected and notified of a scholarship award, you must claim it no later than December 19, 2026, unless otherwise specified in the scholarship guidelines. Awards not claimed by this date will be forfeited.
